The ProKick way - Billy Murray started his martial art quest in the early 1970's with - boxing, Karate, Kung-Fu, ju-jitsu, Tai-Jutsu and moving on to kick and thai-boxing.
Murray began training fighters at the start of the 1980’s in Tullycarnet community centre just outside Belfast. He finally opening his own gym, the Newtownard martial arts in Pound Street where he was based from 1985-1990 Murray move to Switzerland to enhance his fighting career and to work on the first regular kickboxing TV series.
The name 'ProKick' was established (initially as the title carrying the UK and Europe's first regular kickboxing TV series, which ran from 1990-92). All the programmes were produced by Murray. At the end of 1992, murray returned to Belfast and set-up the Prokick gym, a fitness, self-defence and fight stable, was set-up in east Belfast. The spit and sawdust centre is now at the start of it's third decade, having been established in January 1993.
“We have always prided ourselves on being the sharpest and most professional kickboxing organisation in the country,” said Murray. “ Our reputation is good internationally so we wanted to provide an outlet for those who hasen't got a coach or can't get to a club. We wanted to pass on a little of our extensive knowledge that has produced us 10 home grown world champions countless European and national title holders. We will provide another cracken site that will satisfy our growing number of international visitors too. Belfast's Prokick was established at the end of 1990 by Billy Murray, Ireland's most successful full-contact kickboxer. Murray's tale - from bullied school boy to multi world champion, trainer of champions and owner of what is now a chain of franchised gyms - is so incredible as to be almost unbelievable.
